Translating to Russian language

Post by mrkaban »

Hello, I want to translate the program "Gestinux" into Russian. I have a website directory of free software. These are the programs that are distributed under license gnu gpl, mit, bsd, and the like. My interest is not in the program, but in a kind of contribution to the development of such programs.

I can not promise that I can consistently maintain the project, but on request can help with the translation.

I'm having the following questions:

1) As I understood, to translate files "en_US.ini", "en_US_countries.txt", "en_US_util.ini" will not be enough, but still need some sort of way to add it to the program? or I incorrectly understood something? he process of adding more difficult.

2) The program is distributed without a database management system? Simply, there are people who will be interested in your program, but they will not be able to do to install and configure MySQL. There is no desire to do likewise Health Organizer. It provides the installation file with the database management system.

I would suggest the following option - I'll translate these three files and put them, for example, here. And you already use them. If you need to convert additional lines to the new versions, write and translate.

I am not a specialist in English, but I'll try to translate.

The translated files will be included automatically in the installation package next time it will be built.
These packages are built by scripts collecting all translations saved in the svn repository with right names.
You can run the scripts at anytime to make the package and install on your systems, but the packages will be released and uploaded to sourceforge only by me (or another experimented admin).
The program is distributed without a database management system?
There is no reason to install a DBMS server on each client computer.
The server can be MySql, MariaDb or PostgreSql, possibily something else later. We can't provide all the installers !
It is not always required on the client computer, and should remain independent of Gestinux.
There is a documentation page explaining how to install the different servers if needed.

For Windows, gestinux installation package contains a MySql/MariaDb client driver, which should be installed if none is already present, or too old. It works fine, I think.

For Linux, there was only a dependency to Mysql-client and it worked fine up to Ubuntu 14.04.
In more recent Ubuntu distribution, it looks like this meta-package has been removed and we will have to investigate and probably remove this dependency which allowed a very easy client installation.
Any suggestion is welcome in this area.

Hi Tintinux, is there not a solution that wouldn't be broken by Ubuntu updates like that? Because it'll happen again, unfortunately.

Hi

In early Ubuntu 16.04 distributions, the generic package mysql-client was still present, but missing libmysqlclient20.
I have read later that "this error was corrected" but without details.

I have recently reinstalled Gestinux on Ubuntu 16.04 and it worked without need to install any other package manually.
So I presume that the issue is now solved, and I hope it is clean with next versions of Ubuntu.

Does this answer to your question ?
Cordialement,

Tintinux
